Project Funding: $280,000+
Project Area: Northern Portion of Sandusky Watershed (5 subwatersheds)
Project Goals:
1. Reduce siltation, nutrient loading, and pesticides, and restore alterations to flow and habitat in 4 of the 5 northern subwatersheds of Sandusky River by restoring 100 acres of wetlands in area. Landowner will receive 75% cost share from 319 Federal grant money (Grant money awarded is not to exceed $1500 per acre, and is not to exceed $15,000 per land tract. If larger requests occur, exceptions to these restrictions are at the discretion of the Advisory Board.) Ducks Unlimited will help front initial costs so that the landowner will not have to provide initial cash, then await reimbursement check. DU will receive the check for the 75% that was fronted to cover the project cost.
2. Implement an educational program to inform public of unique value of wetlands for pollution reduction and wildlife benefit through 319 wetland restorations. A series of field days has been scheduled to provide information to local individuals interested in restoring wetlands.
